Rethinking Internal Walls: Why Click Wall Matters

Why Internal Walls Deserve a Closer Look

Contractors often treat internal walls as simple — but Click Wall is an approach that challenges that thinking from the ground up.

A line on a drawing. A few studs. A few boards. A detail that everyone thinks they already understand.

In practice, anyone who has built partition walls on site knows there is much more going on.

Internal walls affect fire performance, acoustic performance, programme, site waste, labour, coordination, finishing quality and the long-term performance of a building.

At Innovate at SA, we have spent years helping contractors move repetitive plasterboard preparation away from site and into a controlled workshop environment. We cut, form, label and prepare plasterboard components so they arrive on site ready to fit. You can see the full range of what we do at our Innovation Centre.

Click Wall takes that same thinking further.

It asks a bigger question: can internal partition walls be built in a cleaner, more controlled and more repeatable way?

The Problem with Traditional Partition Construction

Most internal walls are still built piece by piece on site.

Workers install the metal framework. They cut and fix the boards. They form openings, adjust details, generate waste and produce dust. Skilled labour handles repetitive cutting, setting out and preparation work.

On a well-run site, this approach can still work.

However, the industry is under pressure. Programmes are tighter. Skilled labour is harder to find. Compliance expectations are higher. Fire and acoustic performance must meet more rigorous standards.

So the question worth asking is: does the way we build internal walls still make sense?

What Click Wall Sets Out to Do

Click Wall is a modular internal wall system. We are developing it to reduce the amount of traditional site-built work required.

The goal is to move more of the preparation offsite, so that components arrive on site ready to click together, cut less and fit more predictably.

The system sets out to address several practical problems contractors face on site every day.

Reducing Site Labour

Much of the labour involved in traditional partition construction is repetitive. Measuring, marking, cutting, adjusting: these tasks take time and depend on individual skill.

By preparing components offsite to a consistent standard, the project team can focus site labour on installation rather than preparation.

Better Consistency

When the team prepares key components in a controlled environment, they reduce reliance on repeated site judgement for the same detail over and over again.

This matters especially when the same wall type appears across multiple rooms, floors or phases.

Reduced Waste

Traditional site cutting creates waste in lots of small places.

Click Wall sets out to address this through planned cutting, nesting and modular preparation, with the aim of making better use of material before it reaches site.

Improved Quality Control

A repeatable system gives the project team a better chance of achieving a consistent result.

Consistency matters for contractors, but it also matters for clients, developers, consultants and the people who will eventually occupy the building.

Better Support for Fire and Acoustic Performance

We are developing Click Wall as a complete wall system, rather than a collection of separate parts assembled under site pressure.

Fire and acoustic performance depend on the whole build-up working together.

What Early Testing Has Shown

Click Wall is still part of an innovation and development programme.

Early testing has produced strong results, including fire testing that achieved 130 minutes integrity and insulation, and acoustic testing that achieved 57 dB Rw.

These results are important, but they are part of a wider journey. Further classification, certification, extended application work and project-specific validation are still needed before the system can be treated as a fully standardised construction product.

That distinction matters.

At Innovate at SA, we believe innovation should be exciting, but it should also be honest.

Why Click Wall Belongs with Innovate at SA

Innovate at SA already works with contractors, architects and design teams to prepare plasterboard components offsite.

Our everyday work includes our plasterboard cutting service, CNC forming, deflection head strips, baffle boxes, acoustic ceiling components, folded plasterboard, preformed plasterboard bulkheads, column casings and bespoke board solutions.

Click Wall sits alongside that practical experience.

It is a bigger innovation story, but the same belief drives it: if the messy, repetitive and risky preparation work can be moved into a controlled environment, the site team has a better chance of delivering clean, consistent work.

That is true whether we are cutting deflection strips, forming baffle boxes, preparing column casings or developing a modular wall system.

How This Connects to Our Everyday Work

Click Wall is a development project, but the thinking behind it is already visible in the work we carry out every day.

Our core business helps contractors, architects and design teams take awkward, repetitive and time-consuming plasterboard preparation away from site. That includes pre-cut deflection head strips, baffle boxes, column casings, our plasterboard cutting service, acoustic ceiling components, folded plasterboard, preformed plasterboard bulkheads and bespoke board details.

These are not separate ideas. They are all part of the same practical approach:

  • Take the difficult preparation work off site.
  • Prepare it properly.
  • Label it clearly.
  • Deliver it ready to fit.
  • Make the contractor’s job easier.

A deflection head strip may be a simple repeatable component. A baffle box may be a formed detail. A column casing may need accuracy, clean edges and careful setting out. An acoustic ceiling component may need coordination with drawings, services and installation sequence.

In every case, the goal is the same: reduce site cutting, reduce waste, reduce dust, improve consistency and support the site team.

Click Wall takes that same principle and applies it to the internal wall itself.

What Innovate at SA Does Today

Click Wall is part of a wider innovation journey. However, we already provide practical offsite plasterboard services for live projects.

These services run now and help contractors reduce site cutting, improve consistency and simplify installation.

Deflection Head Strips

We cut deflection head strips from client-supplied board, helping drylining contractors reduce repetitive cutting on site. This supports cleaner installation, better consistency and less handling at floor level.

Baffle Boxes

We prepare baffle boxes and formed plasterboard details offsite, helping contractors reduce the amount of setting out, cutting and assembly required on site. Baffle boxes arrive prepared, labelled and ready for installation.

Column Casings

Column casings often require accurate cutting, clean edges and careful setting out. By preparing them offsite, we help reduce site labour and support a more consistent finish.

Plasterboard Cutting Service

Our plasterboard cutting service uses CNC cutting to prepare boards to exact sizes and shapes. This reduces site cutting, minimises waste and gives the installation team a better starting point.

Acoustic Ceiling Components

Acoustic ceiling details often need careful coordination between drawings, services, setting out and installation. We can prepare acoustic ceiling components offsite to help reduce site cutting and support a cleaner installation process.

Folded Plasterboard and Bespoke Board Details

We also prepare folded plasterboard, preformed plasterboard bulkheads, shadow gap details, lighting troughs, ceiling features and other bespoke plasterboard components. These details can be awkward and time-consuming to form on site. Preparing them offsite gives the contractor a better starting point.

Have a Plasterboard Detail You Want Moved Offsite?

When you have a plasterboard detail that is awkward, repetitive or taking too much time on site, we can help review it.

Send us your board type, drawings and cutting schedule. We can look at the detail, model where needed, nest the parts properly and prepare components so they arrive on site clearly labelled and ready to fit.

What Click Wall Means for Contractors

We are developing Click Wall with the contractor in mind.

The contractor is the person who has to make the detail work on site. They deal with programme pressure, labour pressure, coordination problems, site restrictions and quality expectations.

The purpose of Click Wall is not to make life more complicated. The purpose is to make internal wall construction more predictable, more controlled and easier to deliver.

That is the opportunity.

A Practical Innovation, Not Just a Product Idea

Click Wall is not just about creating another wall system.

It is about asking whether the industry can build internal walls in a smarter, cleaner and more controlled way.

For us at Innovate at SA, that question connects directly to the work we already do every day. We help contractors take difficult, repetitive and time-consuming plasterboard preparation away from site and into a controlled workshop.

Click Wall applies that same thinking to the wall itself.

The goal is simple: better preparation, better consistency, less pressure on site.

That is the thinking behind our deflection head strips, baffle boxes, column casings, plasterboard cutting service, acoustic ceiling components, folded plasterboard, preformed plasterboard bulkheads and bespoke board details. And it is the thinking behind Click Wall.

Is Click Wall Available as a Standard Product?

Click Wall is still part of an innovation and development programme. Early fire and acoustic testing has produced strong results, but further classification, certification, extended application work and project-specific validation are still needed before the system can be treated as a fully standardised construction product.
