Plasterboard Baffle Boxes: Acoustic & Fire-Rated
Cut, formed and labelled offsite
Baffle boxes are plasterboard box sections made offsite to suit ceiling, acoustic, service or project-specific details. Whether you need a fire-rated baffle box or an acoustic enclosure, each one is cut and formed at our workshop, ready to install.
You send us your board, drawings, sketches, dimensions and schedule. We cut, form, label and prepare the baffle boxes at our Elsenham workshop so your site team spends less time making baffle boxes by hand and more time installing.
What is a baffle box?
Plasterboard baffle boxes are enclosures formed within partition walls or ceilings to maintain fire compartmentation, acoustic separation, or to dress around services such as ductwork, sprinklers, cable trays or pipework.
At Innovate at SA, we prepare plasterboard baffle box components offsite for drylining contractors, fit-out contractors and main contractors across the UK. You send us your board, drawings, sketches, dimensions and schedule. We nest, CNC-cut, prepare, label and, where required, assemble the components at our Elsenham facility, ready to install on site.
Your board. Your rates. Our cutting.
What we do
We prepare baffle box components offsite for drylining contractors so that repetitive site cutting, forming and adjustment moves into a controlled workshop environment.
Baffle boxes can be standard details, built to recognised manufacturer specifications such as British Gypsum, Knauf or Siniat, or bespoke shapes drawn around your project’s specific services, layouts or build-ups.
Whichever you need, we work from contractor-supplied board so your supply chain stays the same.
The Role of Baffle Boxes in Dry Lining
Baffle boxes are typically specified where a service penetrates a fire-rated or acoustically rated partition wall or ceiling. Without the baffle box, the penetration breaks the wall’s tested performance.
Acoustic baffle boxes maintain the partition’s sound insulation rating, using layered plasterboard and acoustic insulation around the penetration. They are common in hotels, apartments, hospitals and education buildings.
Fire-rated baffle boxes maintain the partition’s fire rating, typically 30, 60, 90 or 120 minutes integrity and insulation, using fire-rated board and an appropriate build-up. They are common around ductwork, electrical containment and plumbing risers in fire-compartmented walls.
Many baffle boxes need to do both, meet the fire rating and the acoustic spec, and the build-up is designed to satisfy whichever requirement is more demanding.
We prepare:
- Wall baffle box components
- Fire-rated and acoustic wall details
- Service opening details
- Partition wall box sections
- Repeat room, plot or corridor components
- CNC-cut plasterboard parts
- Labelled baffle box sets
- Assembled baffle boxes
Your site team receives a clearly labelled package that is straightforward to identify, handle and install.
Why contractors use offsite baffle box preparation
Baffle box work is rarely just one simple board cut. Most projects include repeated details that need to be accurate, consistent and clearly organised before they reach site.
Making baffle boxes on site is repetitive. Each detail involves measuring, cutting, forming, checking and adjusting, and on a busy project that creates dust, waste and pressure on skilled labour.
Offsite preparation moves all of that into a controlled environment. Our CNC equipment cuts every component to the same tolerance, every time, so the package that arrives on site is consistent across the whole project.

The benefit
Your team receives a cleaner, more consistent package. Components are prepared before they reach site, labelled so your team knows what goes where, and supplied ready for installation.
The result is simple:
Less cutting.
Reduced dust.
Waste decreased. (Less Skips!)
More consistency.
Faster installation. Fewer site-made workarounds.

Collect or we deliver
Components can be collected from our workshop or delivered to site, packed so your team knows what goes where.
Baffle boxes FAQs
What are baffle boxes used for?
Baffle boxes are used where services, openings or penetrations need to pass through a ceiling, wall or partition zone while still helping to maintain the performance of the surrounding construction.
They are commonly used around mechanical and electrical openings, service routes, ventilation details and other repeated project openings where a standard flat board detail is not enough.
How do baffle boxes improve acoustics?
Baffle boxes can help reduce sound transfer around openings and service penetrations by enclosing the opening with layered plasterboard and acoustic insulation, reducing the path through which sound can travel.
The final acoustic performance depends on the full wall or ceiling system, board type, seals, surrounding construction and installation quality. Offsite preparation helps by making repeated baffle box components more consistent before they reach site.
Can baffle boxes be made offsite?
Yes. At Innovate at SA, baffle boxes can be cut, formed, labelled and prepared offsite so the site team receives components ready for installation.
This helps reduce cutting on site, dust, waste, handling and preparation time. It also helps make repeated details more consistent across floors, zones or rooms.
What information do you need to produce baffle boxes?
We usually need the board type, thickness, drawings, opening sizes, quantities and any labelling requirements.
If the detail is more complex, we can review drawings, work through the requirement in detail, and agree how the baffle box components should be prepared before production.
Can contractors send their own board for baffle boxes?
Yes. Contractors can send us their own specified board.
This means they keep control of their board supplier, specification, buying route and material rates. Innovate at SA then cuts, forms, labels and prepares the baffle box components offsite.
Are baffle boxes supplied flat pack or assembled?
Baffle boxes can be supplied in the most practical format for the project. Depending on the detail and site conditions, components may be supplied as cut parts, flat-pack kits or pre-assembled sections.
The aim is to make installation simpler for the site team while reducing unnecessary cutting and preparation on site.
Why use offsite baffle box preparation instead of cutting on site?
Offsite preparation helps remove avoidable site work.
Instead of cutting repeated components on site, we prepare the board in a controlled workshop environment. This helps reduce dust, waste, labour pressure and installation variation.
For contractors working under programme pressure, labelled baffle box components can make the site process cleaner, faster and easier to control.
