DEFLECTION HEAD STRIPS
Your board. Pre-cut to deflection head strip sizes by Innovate at SA, ready for drylining contractors and fit-out specialists across the UK.
You supply the plasterboard through your existing merchant. Innovate at SA pre-cuts it to your deflection head strip sizes and returns it labelled and ready for your drylining contractors, fit-out specialists and main contractors across the UK.
Used at the head of a partition where the wall meets the soffit, our pre-cut strips help form a cleaner, more consistent deflection head detail without repetitive cutting on site.
Built for:
- Ceiling to wall deflection head details
- Reducing cracking and remedials
- Acoustic builds and tight handover programmes
Used on: commercial offices | high-rise residential | education | healthcare | acoustic builds | modular/offsite | tight programmes
Why contractors use pre-cut deflection head strips
Your fixers receive strips labelled and ready to install: no measuring, no cutting, no waste. Less dust on site, more consistent details, and faster installation across every floor.
The advantages
Consistent components
Every strip is CNC-cut to your agreed dimensions. No variation between operatives, floors or working areas.
Reliable preparation
Strips are cut before they reach site, so your team has consistent, labelled components ready to install without any on-site preparation.
Betterment built in
Offsite cutting removes a variable from site. Strips arrive ready to fix, improving programme reliability and reducing the chance of rework.
Less waste
Board is nested and cut more efficiently at our workshop. Fewer offcuts and less skip spend on site.
Less HSE pressure
Less repetitive power tool use means less noise, less dust and fewer compliance issues in occupied or restricted working areas.
Less dust
Cutting takes place in our Elsenham workshop with full dust extraction, not in the site environment.
Easier to install
Labelled strips in the right sizes go straight from packaging to the head track. No measuring, marking or cutting required on site.
Time saving
Fixers spend less time preparing material and more time installing. Pre-cut strips reduce the non-productive element of deflection head work.
Fewer remedials
Accurate, consistent strips reduce the risk of poor fit, damaged edges and rework on site.
The aim is simple: give your site team a clearer, cleaner and more reliable package to install. Deflection head strips still need skilled fixing, but the cutting is done before the board reaches site.
What our customers say
“Used the strip cutting service, was very quick turn around. Ordered on the Monday strips arrived on site Wednesday.”
Brett Stokes
“The Innovate solutions really speed up the onsite install process, save on waste and the labour needed for clearing up around messy cutting stations, which is a real value add to our clients.”
Stan Dulley
Head of Operations, DCP
What is a deflection head strip?
A deflection head strip is a precisely cut section of plasterboard fitted at the top of a partition wall, between the head track and the ceiling. It allows the structure above to deflect, to move naturally under load, without cracking the plasterboard below.
In multi-storey buildings, concrete frames deflect and steel structures flex. Without a properly cut deflection head, that movement transfers into the partition and cracks the board. The deflection head strip absorbs the movement and keeps the wall intact.
On fire-rated partitions, the deflection head detail must maintain the fire rating of the overall wall system. Poorly cut or inconsistent strips can create gaps that compromise fire integrity at inspection. Consistent cutting helps support the correct installation of the specified fire-rated system, provided the manufacturer’s detail, site installation and inspection requirements are followed.

The issue with on-site cutting
Cutting deflection head strips on site costs contractors time, labour, space and consistency. It is slow, dusty and hard to keep accurate, particularly on busy projects where space is tight and programmes are under pressure.
-
- Dust from cutting plasterboard, particularly fire-rated and acoustic boards, creates HSE compliance issues.
-
-
- Hand-cut strips are rarely accurate or consistent, leading to gaps that can compromise fire performance.
-
- Cutting on site takes skilled labour away from fixing and finishing.
-
- Offcuts and waste boards cost money and take up skip space.
Board types we cut
We cut deflection head strips from any standard plasterboard. You supply the board through your existing merchant, and we cut it to spec.
The board is the same plasterboard you’re already using on site: British Gypsum, Knauf, Siniat or any other supplied board. Nothing changes in your supply chain.
British Gypsum deflection strips
We cut all standard British Gypsum board grades used in deflection head details. Grades include WallBoard, FireLine, SoundBloc, CoreBoard, FireCase, DuraLine and Moisture Resistant.
Knauf deflection strips
Knauf board grades are accepted across all major drylining systems. We cut Standard Board, Fire Panel, Soundshield, Moisture Panel and Aquapanel to your schedule from your supplied Knauf board.
Siniat and GTEC deflection strips
We cut deflection strips from Siniat and GTEC board to the same schedule as any other manufacturer. Grades include Standard, Fire, Acoustic and Moisture.
Specialist boards
We also cut Promat, plywood and other suitable project boards. If your board is not listed, send us the specification and we will confirm.
Deflection Head Strips: UK Wide, Cut and Delivered for Drylining and Fit-Out Projects
High-rise residential and commercial fit-out projects across the UK rely on accurate, fire-rated deflection head details. Drylining contractors often work under tight programmes, with restricted site access and dust control requirements adding further pressure.
We regularly supply drylining contractors working on commercial offices, high-rise residential and mixed-use developments throughout the UK. Components are cut, labelled by floor and delivered to suit your programme, whether it is a single floor or a full multi-storey package.

Frequently asked questions
Do you deliver deflection head strips across the UK?
Yes. We deliver all over the UK, from our Essex workshop, we are centrally located, with great transport links, so we are in a great location to deliver across the UK. Collection from the workshop is also available once your boards have been cut.
How quickly can I get deflection head strips to a site?
Typical cutting turnaround is 1 to 2 working days, with delivery scheduled to suit your programme. Collection from the workshop is also available.
Will your cutting affect my fire-rated partition compliance?
Our CNC cutting produces consistent, accurate strips to the dimensions you specify. This helps support the correct installation of the specified fire-rated system, provided the manufacturer’s detail, site installation and inspection requirements are followed. You specify the system. We cut to the dimensions you provide.
